May Institute’s Supportive Technology team provides the highest-quality supportive technology evaluation, intervention, consultation, and training to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) of all ages and backgrounds and in all settings. What is Supportive Technology?

Supportive technology consists of assistive technology and remote support technology.

What is Assistive technology (AT)?

Assistive technology (AT) is the use of any tool, program, device, or piece of equipment that allows a person with disabilities to achieve increased independence. One important area of AT for autistic individuals and those with IDD is the use of tools to support or replace speech, known as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
