Columbus, Ga., Resident Receives May Institute's Prestigious Trustees' Fund Award

Randolph, Mass. — May Institute announces that Melissa Chevalier, M.S., BCBA, Program Director of the May Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders in Columbus, has received May Institute’s prestigious Trustees’ Fund Award, which recognizes outstanding employee performance by a member of its staff. Nominations are made by peers and supervisors, and award winners are chosen by the Institute’s Board of Trustees. Recipients of the 2011 awards were recently honored at a ceremony held at its corporate office in Randolph, Mass.

May Institute is a national nonprofit organization that provides educational, rehabilitative, and behavioral healthcare services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, brain injury, mental illness, and behavioral health needs. The Institute employs more than 2,000 staff across the country. May Institute’s Board of Trustees created the Trustees’ Fund Award – the highest honor given to an employee by the organization – in 1993 to recognize the exceptional contributions of staff members who epitomize the organization’s ideals of service and professionalism.

“Melissa exemplifies exceptional leadership, support for colleagues, and professionalism of the highest caliber,” said Walter P. Christian, Ph.D., ABBP, ABPP, President of May Institute. “I am both humbled and grateful for the opportunity to honor such a dedicated and selfless professional.”

Chevalier has been particularly active in the oversight and support of the organization’s expansion of autism-related military services in Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee. She began her career at May Institute in 2007 as a behavior specialist. She and her family are residents of Columbus, Ga.
