Dear Community,
Women have played a vital role in our organization from the very first days of May Institute, since Marie Anne May and her husband, Dr. Jacques May, opened the doors to our first school on Cape Cod.
Marie Anne was passionate about creating a place where her twin boys with autism, and others like them, would find a home. She envisioned an environment that focused on progress and potential rather than disabilities and limitations.
As the first woman president and CEO at May, and the first woman Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, we are proud to be links in the chain of a long line of women dedicated and driven to creating better lives for the individuals in our care.
This unbroken line of women includes nurses, teachers, caretakers, researchers, behavior analysts, executives, mothers, sisters, daughters, and volunteers. They deliver the best that science has to offer alongside love, respect, and compassion.
We take this moment during Women’s History Month to remember and acknowledge the contributions of these thousands of women to the success of our organization.
We owe our recent selection as one of the top 20 Women-led Businesses in Massachusetts to these women, as well as to the men who work alongside them in our common mission.
