Janet E. Mercier, J.D.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources


In her role as the Senior Vice President for Human Resources, Ms. Mercier is responsible for leading May Institute in its evolution into a workplace of choice and in fostering an environment of continuous employee engagement.

Ms. Mercier provides leadership to the Human Resources (HR) department in formulating and executing strategic human capital processes that span the organization. She and her team establish and continuously enhance a comprehensive and integrated portfolio of effective, efficient and creative initiatives that advance the HR components of the organization’s overall strategic plan. The HR department fosters an environment of continual and consistent employee engagement through: innovative management practices in employee relations; recognition and engagement; talent acquisition and development; benefits and compensation; training and development; workers’ compensation and workplace safety; and diversity and inclusion.
 
Ms. Mercier has more than 20 years of healthcare, employment law, and human resources experience, including several years of HR leadership in a non-profit environment. Most recently she served as the Vice President of Human Resources for Five Star Quality Care, a national provider of senior living and skilled nursing services headquartered in Newton, Mass. She has also held HR leadership positions with Steward Health Care (formerly Caritas Christi Health Care) and UNICCO Service Company, as well as practicing law in Massachusetts for several years before embarking on her HR career.
 
Ms. Mercier earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Boston University and her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk Law School in Boston. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Northeast Human Resources Association.
