Josephine Lopez-Brown
2018 Trustees' Fund Award Recipient

Direct Support Professional
May Center for Adult Services
Cape Cod and Southeastern Mass.

Josey has worked for May Institute since 2014, and during this time has proven to be an asset to the entire Cape team. She has forged close bonds with the individuals in her care and also with our staff members. Josey has worked in many of our group home locations on the Cape, and provides quality care across the board. Because of her hard work in programs other than just her “assigned site,” all of the on-Cape Assistant Directors and the Residential Director have chosen to nominate Josey for this award.

Josey takes the lead in coordinating medical appointments, advocating for individuals during visits, and the follow-up thereafter. She will help with additional programmatic operational paperwork and duties in homes that may be short-staffed or without a manager.

She works closely with her Assistant Director to ensure individuals’ needs are met and their quality of life is paramount. She will find fun, local event information, talk with the individuals about going, and coordinate to ensure events happen. She recently took some of the ladies from her residence to see The Price is Right Live at Foxwoods. They went to the show, dinner, shopping, spent the night overnight in Connecticut, and had an all-around fabulous time!

In all that she does, and in all of the homes where she works, Josey goes above and beyond to personify the May's core values in our mission: “promote independence, choice, dignity, and respect.”
