Massachusetts Representative Jim Dwyer Visits May Center for Child Development in Woburn

The May Center for Child Development in Woburn, Mass., was excited to host State Representative Jim Dwyer of the 30th Middlesex District this week. Elected to office in January 2009, Representative Dwyer proudly serves the cities of Woburn, Reading, and Stoneham. Focused on key issues related to education, Representative Dwyer continues to be a tremendous advocate for increasing Chapter 70 funding, thereby supporting special education and alternative education programs.

Representative Dwyer enjoyed a tour of the school, often stopping to engage individual students in conversation or offering them his signature “high-five.” He impressed the staff as he began to address each student by name. Towards the end of his visit, he read Where the Wild Things Are, a popular children's book by writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, to a group of students in the library. The students had their eyes glued on the Representative who, with a grin on his face, would often pause and ask the students about different illustrations, resulting in a number of creative responses and reactions from the children.

As Representative Dwyer’s visit came to an end, one of the students presented him with a book of colorful illustrations, which was a compilation of artwork created by many of the students. Representative Dwyer was delighted with his gift and promised to hang it in his Boston office. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to host this special guest and look forward to sharing our schools with other lawmakers in the future.
