Continuing the Dialogue: An Introspective and Retrospective Look at Social and Economic Inequities

On Wednesday, April 12th, May Institute’s Diversity and Inclusion Council was pleased to sponsor the film/dialogue series, Cracking the Codes/the system of racial inequity.

Staff from many divisions and of various levels and cultural and ethnic backgrounds participated in this thought-provoking experience and filled the session to capacity. Many shared personal experiences openly, which contributed to the group’s collective learning.

According to the Healing Racism Institute of Pioneer Valley, Cracking the Codes/the system of racial inequity has engaged thousands of people worldwide in talking about the system of racial inequity through personal stories from racial justice leaders. This film asks America to talk about the causes and consequences of systemic inequity. Designed for dialogue, the film works to disentangle internal beliefs, attitudes, and prejudgments within, and it builds skills to address the structural drivers of social and economic inequities.

The session was facilitated by Waleska Lugo-DeJesus, Director of the Healing Racism Institute of Pioneer Valley and Heshima Moja, Arts and Cultural Consultant.
