May Institute’s Senior Leaders Solotar and Sperry Awarded Board Certification by ABPP

Randolph, Mass. — Lauren C. Solotar, Ph.D., ABPP, Chief Clinical Officer, and Ralph B. Sperry, Ph.D., ABPP, Chief Operating Officer, both of May Institute, became board certified in their respective specialties by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).

This national governing board recognizes individuals in approved specialty areas in psychology who demonstrate excellence in meeting the advanced education, training, and experience requirements of the specialty. “These two members of our senior leadership team exemplify the caliber of clinical expertise, and the vision and focus on exceptional care, that have been cornerstones of May Institute’s continued growth and success,” says Walter P. Christian, Ph.D., ABBP, ABPP, Institute President and CEO.

Dr. Solotar received her ABPP certification in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. She has been with May Institute since 1996. As Chief Clinical Officer, she provides clinical oversight for all of the Institute’s programs and centers. Her responsibilities include setting standards for clinical practice, credentialing and privileging staff, supervision of clinical procedures and interventions, and oversight of professional training programs and research. She is also responsible for ensuring the quality of clinical services through supervision of the Quality Improvement team and the development of performance improvement projects.

Another key component of her position is oversight the organization’s Clinical Leadership, which includes the Clinical Standards Committee, and ensuring that peer review occurs across sites. Dr. Solotar also has oversight of the behavioral health management contract at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Mass., the delivery of clinical services at the Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic in Randolph, Mass., and the development of new projects.

Dr. Solotar is an expert in cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies, and specializes in the treatment of eating and anxiety disorders. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents.

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Solotar received her doctorate from the University of New York at Albany, State University of New York, where she was the recipient of the University’s Award for Excellence. She completed her internship at the Albany Psychology Internship Consortium. She held a faculty appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine and was the Chief Psychologist at Tufts New England Medical Center for ten years. During her tenure at NEMC, she was involved in the development of the Boston VA/New England Medical Center APA Psychology Internship Consortium. Dr. Solotar is a resident of Newton, Mass.

Dr. Sperry received his ABPP certification in Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology. He is one of 44 psychologists in the country with this designation, and the only psychologist with this credential in Massachusetts. Dr. Sperry has been with May Institute since 2008, and he oversees the day-to-day operations of all of the Institute’s services including behavioral health, adult services, consulting services, and special education schools, as well as and human resources. He also oversees the expansion of autism services for military families throughout the country.

Prior to his promotion to COO, Dr. Sperry served as Senior Vice President of Consultation Services at May Institute. In that role, he was responsible for the operation and management of the Institute’s home-based and school consultation services for children and adolescents with autism and other special needs.

He has over 30 years experience in behavioral health management and has expertise in the area of organizational and business psychology. Dr. Sperry previously held the position of CEO for psychiatric hospitals, special education schools, and behavioral health systems in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. He also served as the behavioral healthcare consultant for the Connecticut State Medical Society. Prior to joining May Institute, Dr. Sperry was the Corporate Director of Neurorehabilitation for a national long-term care company. In that capacity, he managed 80 facilities that provided traumatic brain injury (TBI), behavioral, and Alzheimer/dementia services.

Dr. Sperry received his doctoral degree in Psychology from the Saybrook University in San Francisco. He is a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and a licensed marriage and family therapist. He has held a Medical Staff appointment as a Clinical Psychologist at the Newport Naval Station in Rhode Island. Dr. Sperry is a resident of Quincy, Mass.
