May Institute Names Lisa Thomas as Director of School Consultation for Greater Philadelphia Area

Randolph, Mass. – Lisa Thomas, Ph.D., NCSP, LP, BCBA, has been named May Institute’s Director of School Consultation in Philadelphia, Pa. and surrounding areas. 

A national nonprofit organization that provides services for autistic individuals and individuals with other special needs, May Institute has offered consultation and professional development services to schools across Massachusetts and in other states for more than 30 years. 

Over her 25-year career in the education field, Dr. Thomas has implemented evidence-based interventions and services to school districts, state and county agencies, and other child organizations across 14 states, primarily in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

In her new position, Dr. Thomas and a team of May Institute consultants are collaborating with school staff members to assess and enhance educational programs for children and adolescents with diverse diagnoses and needs and co-occurring mental health disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and neurological disorders.

Evidence-based services offered by May Institute include:

  • Assisting districts in building capacity in best practice behavior management strategies
  • Support and guidance in conducting functional behavior assessment (FBA) and behavior support planning
  • Consultation to ensure best practices in classroom management
  • Complex case consultation related to challenging behavior
  • Support and consultation to school district behavior analysts and special education teachers
  • Parent training
  • Staff training and professional development
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) / Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

Dr. Thomas holds bachelor’s degrees in Elementary and Kindergarten Education and Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Lehigh University, where she specialized in pediatric/health psychology. In addition, she is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Pennsylvania licensed psychologist (LP), Pennsylvania and nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP), and Pennsylvania certified elementary teacher. She also serves as one of the Pennsylvania State Coordinators for the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network and has presented her work at local and national conferences.
