The nonprofit leader has teamed with Infinity Group to design and build a new May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.

Randolph, Mass. – [May 29, 2025] – May Institute, a nonprofit leader in services for autistic individuals and those with other developmental disabilities, proudly announces the upcoming opening of its seventh special education school. This milestone coincides with the organization’s 70th anniversary and represents a significant step in addressing the urgent need for specialized educational services.

Autism now affects one in 31 children in the U.S., and nearly 6 million adults. With demand for evidence-based education and clinical support rising, May Institute continues it’s mission to expand access to life-changing services.

“Our new Mansfield school is a direct response to the growing need for specialized education for autistic students, including those with profound autism,” said Lauren C. Solotar, Ph.D., ABPP, President and CEO of May Institute. “We have come a long way in the past 70 years. I am proud that we have been tireless advocates for individuals of all ages with special needs, building exceptional programs where everyone we serve can achieve their greatest potential.”

The new school, serving students ages 3–22, will provide individualized instruction based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) as well as other evidence-based interdisciplinary services. It will focus on developing communication, academic, social, behavioral, and vocational skills.

The school will feature a 22,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility designed to foster academic and personal development. Highlights include:
•    Large, bright classrooms
•    Adaptive gymnasium
•    Library/media center
•    Art and music rooms
•    Cafeteria
•    Gross motor skills room
•    Comprehensive outdoor play area with adaptive playground

The Mansfield location will allow May Institute to provide its evidence-based educational model to an additional 48 students whose needs require a highly specialized program, expanding access to services in southeastern Massachusetts.

All May Center Schools are fully approved and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). May Institute is a member of the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools (MAAPS).

This expansion also brings new employment opportunities for professionals passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals with special needs. May Institute is actively recruiting compassionate and skilled educators, clinicians, and support staff to join its growing team and help shape the future of autistic individuals and individuals with developmental disabilities.

The new school is scheduled to open in October 2025.
