May Institute Home-based and School Consultation Services Earn National Accreditation


Randolph, Mass. – May Institute has received a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for the home-based and school consultation services it provides to public schools, educational collaboratives, private agencies, families, and individuals. The Institute is a national nonprofit that provides programs and services for individuals with special needs.
CARF accreditation is only granted to organizations that exhibit the highest level of compliance with and fulfillment of standards established by the Commission. Accreditation of May Institute’s home-based and school consultation services is a result of a rigorous peer review process and a demonstration of the highest quality, measurability, and accountability.
Through the years, thousands of public school districts across the country have benefitted from the Institute’s consultative services, including its Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs. PBIS is an application of evidence-based strategies and systems to assist schools in increasing academic performance and safety, decreasing problem behavior, and establishing positive school cultures.
Noting that May Institute’s PBIS programs demonstrated “exemplary conformance to its standards,” CARF reviewers said: “The organization has implemented and supported efforts in building school-wide behavior support in over 20,000 schools across the nation. [PBIS] has been the subject of many research studies and has proven to produce very positive behaviors.”
May Institute’s staff also received special recognition from the accrediting organization. “Staff members are well-qualified, dedicated, motivated, responsive, enthusiastic, passionate, and responsive to the needs of the persons served,” CARF reviewers wrote. “[Staff members demonstrate] a genuine concern for the persons served and their families; a consistent willingness to go above and beyond in helping families to access ancillary services, when needed; and a proactive approach in anticipating and responding to the needs and wishes of the persons served in order to optimize the quality of supports that are provided.”

All of May Institute’s programs that have been through the CARF accreditation process have earned three-year accreditation. This constitutes one of the largest and most comprehensive accreditations CARF has ever awarded for a network of behavioral programs.
