09/3/07

Randolph, Mass. &mdash May Institute’s school and home-based consultation services in the Northeast have received a three-year national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

May Institute is a nonprofit organization that provides educational, rehabilitative, and behavioral services to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities, brain injury, mental illness, and behavioral healthcare needs. The Institute offers intensive home-based behavior therapy, family support, and consultation to children and their families. Its comprehensive school consultation services enhance educational programming for students with learning, cognitive, and behavioral challenges.

CARF accreditation represents the highest level of compliance and is granted to organizations that exhibit substantial fulfillment of standards established by the Commission. Accreditation of May Institute’s home-based and school consultation services is a result of a rigorous peer review process and a demonstration of services of the highest quality, measurability, and accountability.

The CARF report gave May Institute staff high marks for being “knowledgeable, extremely caring, and dedicated. [Staff members] display a great deal of dignity and respect in their actions and interactions with persons served. The cultural diversity among staff members mirrors that seen within the population served…a critical component in providing respectful and individualized quality services,” the report noted.

“For more than 50 years, May Institute has been at the forefront of providing innovative services to individuals with special needs,” said Walter P. Christian, Ph.D., ABPP, May Institute’s President and CEO. “CARF accreditation is a validation of the outstanding dedication of May employees who provide exceptionally caring and compassionate support to each and every individual in our care.”

May Institute has evolved from an organization with one school for children with autism into an award-winning national network that serves over 25,000 individuals and their families annually at nearly 200 service locations in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, and on the West Coast.
