May Institute Relocates, Expands Jacksonville Center for Young Children with ASD; Holiday Open House Planned for December 15 for Surrounding Communities

12/5/18

Jacksonville, N.C. May Institute has relocated and expanded its May Center for ABA Services in Jacksonville to help toddlers and young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) improve communication, social interaction, independence, and adaptive skills. May Institute is a national network of programs and services for individuals across the lifespan with autism, neurobehavioral disorders, and other special needs.

The center, which recently moved to 200 Doctors Drive, Suite A, in Jacksonville will host a Holiday Open House for the general public on Saturday, December 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Open House provides an opportunity for families to drop by and learn more about applied behavior analysis (ABA) and center-based services. There will be fun activities and the opportunity for children to have their pictures taken with a “Sensitive Santa.” Craft activities, games, and light refreshments will be provided.

“We are delighted to be expanding our early intensive behavioral program for children with ASD,” said Christina Hardy, Ph.D., LP, BCBA-D, Program Director of the Center. “Center-based services provide meaningful learning opportunities for these children. Services are designed to teach critical skills across several domains including communication, adaptive living, and prosocial behaviors while simultaneously targeting the reduction of challenging behaviors that can impede these skills. In addition, consultation support services are provided to parents to ensure skills generalize into the home and community setting.”

The center provides half-day or full-day services that feature individualized instruction based on the principles of applied behavior analysis. ABA is the methodology universally recognized as an evidence-based intervention for children with a diagnosis of ASD and other behavioral or developmental disabilities. Research shows that early and intensive intervention can significantly impact long-term prognosis, particularly in the areas of language and social behavior.

The May Center for ABA Services currently has openings for new students, and accepts many commercial and private insurances, as well as private pay. Parents whose children attend the center receive parent coaching and consultation. Consultation focuses on teaching caregivers to work with their children to reduce problematic behavior and generalize, or transfer, skills they learn at the center to their home setting.

RSVPs for the Holiday Open House are required. Please call 910.333.0814, or register online at mayinstitute.org/events.

The center serves families from Jacksonville and surrounding communities.
