Randolph, Mass. — May Institute, a national network of programs and services for individuals of all ages with a variety of special needs, is opening a center-based program in Wilmington, Mass., this fall. The May Center will provide “best practice” applied behavior analytic services for children ages 3-10 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The center is the second May Institute program opening in Wilmington this year to serve families in the area. It will share space on the site of the new May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities located at 50-E Concord Street, Suite 550.
The new May Center for ABA Services will provide full day, half-day, and after-school services that feature one-on-one instruction based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), the methodology universally recognized as crucial for working with children with a diagnosis of ASD or other behavioral or developmental disabilities. Research verifies that intensive intervention during the early years has the best prognosis and fosters success for these children.
“This program will create meaningful learning opportunities for children to master critical skills and reduce problem behavior in their homes, the community, or other environments,” says May Institute’s Chief Operating Officer Ralph Sperry, Ph.D., ABPP. “Our ABA services target the core characteristics of ASD through interventions that focus on communication, social, play, and daily living skills.
“Parents whose children attend the May Center can receive parent training and consultation from our expert staff at the center or in their home,” says Dr. Sperry. “Parent consultation focuses on teaching parents to work with their children to reduce problematic behavior and generalize, or transfer, skills they learn to multiple settings.”
The May Center for ABA Services currently has openings for a limited number of students, and accepts many commercial and private insurances, as well as private pay. For more information, contact Antonina Saunders at 781.437.1215 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
