Penny War and Pie Day at May School | Norwood!

11/7/25

What fun today at May School | Norwood! Students and staff celebrated Pie-in-the-Face Day, the result of the school's annual Penny War.

The Penny War was started several years ago by Senior Teacher Matthew Soares and his student, Brendan, to encourage giving back to the community and to foster friendly competition throughout the school. Each year, over the course of a month, several classrooms collect pennies to raise money for a local animal shelter, The Bay State Animal Cooperative. The classrooms that raise the most money in pennies get to pick an administrator or teacher to “pie,” and the results are below:

1st place: Class 11 — they chose to pie Andrea Potoczny-Gray, Executive Director
2nd place: Class 10 — they chose to pie Ana Rodrigues, Director of Residential Services
3rd place: Class 3 — they chose to pie Emily Diamond, Transitional Education Specialist

The final total raised was $530! Congratulations to the students and staff in Norwood for such a successful (and delicious!) competition.
