Summary:

"Before PBIS, student behavior was at the top of the list of union complaints, and now it doesn't make the list." - Dr. Mark Pelligrino, District Superintendent

Servicing students in our current educational climate presents a wide range of challenges for school districts. Our schools are seeing greater numbers of students with limited access to resources, limited English language proficiency, and complex learning and social challenges. Due to these difficulties, these students may engage in challenging behavior that may result in exclusionary discipline and, in some cases, segregated learning environments. MTSS/PBIS, through research, has been shown to reduce exclusionary discipline and improve SEL skills. Several case studies will show how implementing these practices has successfully helped schools meet these challenges. These successes have resulted in reduced staff time allocated to responding to discipline problems and increased funding reallocations to allow the intensification of related initiatives. Most importantly, they help students feel supported and succeed in school.
