Join us for this workshop that is part of our intermediate to advanced-level workshop series for human services and behavioral healthcare professionals working in clinical, educational, medical, and rehabilitation settings.

Event Description: The analysis of verbal behavior, as first described by Skinner and then applied by Sundberg and others, allows practitioners to effectively teach communication skills to individuals with autism and other severe disabilities.

This workshop has three major goals.
  • The first goal is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the major verbal operants and other concepts from Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior, including motivating operations, mands, tacts, echoics, intraverbals, and textual behavior.
  • The second goal is to provide participants with research-based procedures to teach verbal behavior, including contriving motivating operations to teach mands, errorless teaching, quick transfer of stimulus control and other transfer-of-stimulus-control procedures, and using sign language and other augmentative communication systems.
  • The third goal is to teach “the analysis” – that is, how to observe problems with a student’s verbal behavior and determine possible solutions. This analysis requires a careful and complete understanding of the analysis of verbal behavior and other basic concepts in behavior analysis. 

CE Credits: May Institute is approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to grant Continuing Education Credits. Each seminar will grant two (2) Continuing Education Credits for BCBA professionals.
