12th International Conference for Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS)
This conference has a strong focus on supporting families and features invited presentations on these topics. Many of the presentations across the three-day conference are presented in a family-friendly format. Invited sessions relevant to families are listed below.
Friday March 13th
8:30am Positive Behavior Support in the Context of Family Lives
Meme Hieneman and Sarah Fefer
The presenters will identify evidence-based practices in family-based behavioral support across various disciplines, and make a case for comprehensive, multi-tiered services, including family-wide support for those experiencing the most significant challenges.
10:00am Engaging Families in Positive Behavior Supports: Views from Both Sides of the Table
This presentation will discuss school and parent perspectives on barriers to engaging families in effective two-way engagement and describe examples of effective engagement that have promoted student, family and school success.
Saturday March 14th
Parenting with Positive Behavior Support: Resolving Behavioral challenges
Meme Hieneman and Sarah Fefer
Dr. Meme Hieneman is a consultant with Positive Behavior Support Applications, and former Research Director of the Positive Family Intervention Project at the University of South Florida. She has published a variety of articles, chapters, and books including “Parenting with Positive Behavior Support: A Practical Guide to Resolving Your Child’s Difficult Behavior.” This workshop is intended for parents and caregivers, as well as professionals who work with families. It will guide participants through a practical, collaborative problem-solving process to identify possible function-based strategies for children.
