Advancing the Research on and Practice of Competency-Based Supervision of Clinical Trainees

Professional Continuing Education Series

Join us for this workshop that is part of our intermediate to advanced-level workshop series for human services and behavioral healthcare professionals working in clinical, educational, medical, and rehabilitation settings.

Name of Instructor: Laura B. Turner, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Description: Competency-based supervision models are now the gold standard in supervision across disciplines. As such, this workshop will provide an overview of a behavior-analytic conceptualization of supervision in light of a competency-based practice model (Turner, Fischer & Luiselli, 2016; Turner, 2017) developed from empirical research, the BACB Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline (BACB, 2012), and the BACB Ethical and Professional Compliance Code (BACB, 2014). However, the primary focus of this workshop will be on the systematic advancement of supervision practices within and across fields with special focus on, but not limited to, effective teaching methods for complex and flexible behavior required of future, independent practitioners, such as problem-solving, clinical decision making, and collaboration. Lecture, structured discussion, and small-group activities will be utilized.
