Lisa Thomas, Ph.D., NCSP, L.P., BCBA

Dr. Thomas, who has worked in the education field for more than 25 years, joined May Institute in 2024. She is currently responsible for supporting school systems by enhancing services for students with learning, cognitive, and behavioral challenges; providing on-site and virtual consultation and professional development to schools in Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Dr. Thomas is a passionate educational consultant and trainer with expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), response to intervention (RTI), and behavioral interventions across varied PreK-12 educational settings. She possesses expertise in behavioral analysis, instructional coaching models, staff training, program development, and program evaluation. She has provided services to school districts, state and county agencies, and other child-serving organizations across 14 states, primarily in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, to support the implementation of evidence-based interventions.

Her professional interests include interventions for children with and at-risk for developing behavioral disorders; the implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to alternative settings; and training and coaching educators, behavioral health professionals, and caregivers in evidence-based practices including classroom management and social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum.

Dr. Thomas holds bachelor’s degrees in Elementary and Kindergarten Education and Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. She earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Lehigh University, where she specialized in pediatric/health psychology.

She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Pennsylvania licensed psychologist, Pennsylvania and nationally certified school psychologist, and Pennsylvania certified elementary teacher. She serves as one of the Pennsylvania State Coordinators for the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network. 

Dr. Thomas has published her research in refereed journals. She has delivered more than 45 conference presentations and more than 100 professional trainings over her tenure as a school consultant. Through the years, her popular professional development training topics include Classroom Management, Coaching, Mental Health, Motivational Interviewing, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Parent Management, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Relaxation Skills/Self-Care Strategies, Supervision, and Trauma-Informed Care.
