Mr. Whelan graduated from The George Washington University with bachelor and master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), and studied applied behavior analysis at UMass Boston. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and a Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst (LABA), he is currently a doctoral student in the behavior analysis program at Western New England University, studying under Dr. Gregory Hanley.
Before joining May Institute, where he serves as a Clinical Director at the May Center School in Randolph, Mass., Mr. Whelan worked as a SLP and BCBA in Washington, D.C., and throughout Massachusetts.
His research interests include the assessment and treatment of severe problem behavior, functional communication training, and the evaluation of preference for learning contexts and behavioral interventions.
Mr. Whelan has taught in the applied behavior analysis program at The Van Loan School at Endicott College, and has presented his research in both speech and language pathology and applied behavior analysis at local and national conferences. He has also provided behavioral consultative services to public and private schools as well as adult day programs throughout Massachusetts.
