Samuel Karanja
2015 Trustees' Fund Award Recipient

Residential Teacher
May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities
Randolph, Mass.

Samuel has been a May Institute employee for more than 13 years. Sam always goes above and beyond to show full support to his team. He is very involved and always comes to work with a positive attitude.

If something needs to be done, Sam always volunteers without complaining. For example, when one of our students was in the hospital and the staff assigned to that student was unable to be with him, Sam volunteered to help. He stayed with that student at the hospital until late at night.

Sam is always willing to take the lead when it comes to accompanying our students on outings. For over two years now, he has been taking Sean for haircuts at least once a month, and going with James to the library and recycling every Wednesday without missing a day.

He is very reliable and works well with all of our students. They seek him out if they have a problem or a conflict because they know he will always help. His drive and passion to help students achieve greatness are truly admirable.

In human services, we aren’t driven or motivated by what we see in our paychecks, but rather by the potential we see in our students. Sam maximizes every opportunity to help our students become the best they can be. He is an amazing person!
