"I am thrilled to nominate her for the Spotlight Award for their unwavering dedication and positivity. She consistently creates a welcoming atmosphere, making everyone—from new hires to seasoned staff—feel encouraged and supported. Her efforts in organizing the Special Olympics each year demonstrate a deep commitment to our community, and their willingness to take on any challenge is truly inspiring. A constant source of support, information, and encouragement, she is an excellent model for others, exemplifying teamwork and leadership. Their positive demeanor and ability to make those around them feel valued make them a true asset to our team." —Sheilena Downey

Here’s what Mariah said winning the Employee Spotlight Award means to them:

"As for things I love about my job, my colleagues, the progress students make each day, and the new steps that they take. Every day I go into work I see it as a challenge. What can I get my students to accomplish today? How can I expand their world even just a little bit? Whether it be a preference or reinforcer assessment, expanding food repertoires and edible reinforcements, thinking outside the box to help each student gain a little more independence or find a new love. This challenge keeps me on my toes and always reaching for the next steps and pushing my students to be the best version of themselves.

Along with this, I could not ask for a better team to work with than the one at the West Springfield School. My colleagues are an inspiration every day, and watching them grow over the last (nearly) 10 years has been such a wonderful experience. I’ve watched students become graduates; friends get married and have children; buy houses and new cars; lose loved ones but find purpose in the work we do; move on to new opportunities; and, overall, build their lives while dedicating their time to the students and communities we serve. Thank you to everyone!!!"
