[Read press release here.]

Lindsay Emmanuel has received a Trustees' Fund Award from May Institute's Board of Trustees. The award is given annually to a select group of employees who are nominated by their peers and supervisors. This year's recipients were honored at a ceremony at the organization's corporate offices in Randolph, Mass. What follows is an excerpt from Lindsay's nomination:

Since starting in her role as Curriculum Coordinator, Lindsay has brought curriculum to life in so many ways for our students. She has coordinated trips to the Blake Planetarium, the Nutcracker ballet, Blue Hills Trailside Museum, and a local pumpkin patch. She also facilitated a safety awareness program that brought local law enforcement and fire department members to our campus.

Last summer, Lindsay developed the May Center School’s first ever SWAMP (Science with Art, Math and Problem-Solving) Camp for approximately 30 of our students. For one week, students gathered in the upper parking lot in Randolph to learn about various science topics including simple machines, air pressure, cause and effect, and friction, to name a few. Each day began with a lesson plan created and presented by one of the participating teachers, and then students followed it up with hands-on activities and experiments like building a catapult and shooting water bottle rockets.

This event not only brought science to life for our students, it provided them with the opportunity to get out of the classroom, engage in a different way with their peers, and most importantly, have fun learning!
