Military Marketing Manager
May Centers for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Colombus, Ga.

Amy Bontrager joined May Institute in 2008 as a Community Outreach Coordinator in our Columbus office. Her role is to help military families through the process of accessing services from the Institute. Within her first year, Amy increased the number of families we were serving by 125 percent, and secured $67,000 in funding to provide educational seminars and support groups to families in need. She is currently working on her master’s degree in Non Profit Management and Philanthropy.

Amy has been an essential player in the coordination of May Institute’s growth in providing services to military families. As a military spouse, she not only has a passion for providing services to military families, but the desire to learn about the communities we serve, understand the service infrastructure, and connect with key stakeholders who can impact service delivery.

Amy’s expertise was evident recently as she helped us meet some of the challenges we faced with a new start-up operation at Ft. Hood. Within the first few months of establishing services there, our new Center had received only one referral for services. Despite a known demand, there was a barrier to connecting families in need of services to the Center. Amy successfully bridged this gap by building relationships with service coordinators on base and with doctors in the area. Within three weeks, our referral base had increased from one to five families, with others in the pipeline.

Amy has also been a pivotal part of the opening of our May Center at Fort Campbell. She has forged relationships that resulted in a full caseload of families within two weeks of opening.

Most importantly, Amy embraces the ideals of May Institute. Her passion for helping military families promotes the Institute’s goal of eventually meeting the needs of all of our families as they transition from one base to another.
