Teacher
May Center School for Brain Injury and Related Disorders
Brockton, Mass.

Over the past year, Amanda served as the Teacher in one of our most challenging behavioral classrooms at the May Center School for Brain Injury and Related Disorders in Brockton, Mass. The Senior Teacher was out for a portion of the year, and Amanda filled in admirably in her absence. This included dealing with students who exhibited high rates of aggression, property destruction, and elopement, necessitating sometimes daily physical management. Each day, she ably supervised two regular staff and two different float staff, maintaining stability for her students despite the instability in staffing.

Amanda exhibited tremendous initiative during this time, strengthening the structure of the classroom and routinely going above and beyond. She was a role model for the less experienced staff in her classroom when implementing academic programs, dealing with behavioral challenges, and getting to know two new students who entered her classroom.

Amanda recently earned her BCBA, and she expertly uses her behavioral skills and knowledge when working with staff and students. She routinely implements Behavior Support Plans with high integrity, and is always willing to provide training and feedback on these plans to the staff in her classroom when Behavior Specialists are not present. She communicates effectively with supervisors and colleagues, never complains about being asked to take on extra work, and remains professional and courteous at all times. Her students love her and are lucky to have her as a teacher.

She is a pleasure for all to work with and an exemplary member of the team! I often thank her for just being her — dependable, hard-working, dedicated, professional, and a really nice person to be around. She is a model employee with tremendous potential for advancement, exemplified by the outstanding service and dedication to her coworkers, students, and the program as a whole. The Brockton program is extremely fortunate to have her!
