The Employee Recognition & Appreciation committee congratulates Tina Lopes for being selected for an Employee Spotlight Award in the Fall of 2015! The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of May employees. Winners are nominated by their colleagues, managers, and supervisors from across the organization.

Albertina Lopes, Director of Safety, Risk Management, and Healthcare Systems, began her career at the May Center School for Brain Injury and Related Disorders in Brockton, Massachusetts, as a Residential Teacher (direct care) in October, 2003. She subsequently held various and diverse roles within the organization including Senior Training Specialist, Quality Improvement (QI) Healthcare Manager and, most recently, Director within the QI department.

"Tina tirelessly works towards our mission of quality service and training,” wrote the staff member who nominated her. “In her usual quiet and unassuming manner, Tina works diligently – always striving for a better quality of life for the individuals served and a better workplace for the employees. She may be quiet, but her impact is great.”

“It is extremely humbling and gratifying to know that my efforts are recognized and appreciated by my colleagues,” Tina says. “When I was told that I was being recognized, it immediately occurred to me how many May employees deserve this award too. I look forward to hearing their stories as we continue with this initiative!"

When asked what she likes most about her job, Tina replies, “I most appreciate and value the opportunity to help others and to help affect change through my work. I also enjoy being able to interact with the individuals served and my colleagues.”

Prior to joining the May Institute in 2003, Tina received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Doctorate in Medicine from Saint Louis University in the Philippines. Her professional experience, gained on three different continents, includes various roles in the medical and biological sciences, education and training, and writing and journalism.
