Ceci Blanford, 2010 Trustees’ Fund Awardee

Behavior Specialist/Activities Coordinator
Florida Division; Bottomridge Group Home
Orange Park, Fla.

Ceci has been with May Institute for over three and a half years at our Bottomridge Group Home in Florida working with six boys with autism and intellectual disabilities. She was promoted to Behavior Specialist within her first year. In this role, Ceci is responsible for ensuring that staff follow behavior plans and run their skill acquisitions programs. During the past year, Ceci’s house had an unprecedented 100 percent completion for 10 out of the 12 months for skill acquisition programs (the other two months were in the upper 90 percent). This is a remarkable feat considering that almost 11,000 data points were accumulated during that period of time!

Ceci’s most remarkable contribution has been how she facilitates our individuals’ involvement in the community. She is always thinking of new and creative activities, trips, and events. Over the years, Ceci has planned trips to the Daytona Water Park, Walt Disney World, Wild Adventures Theme Park, and Busch Gardens. Although these trips are impressive, some of the smaller things Ceci does are even more notable. One of the most notable outings she arranged was a night out at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre. She also took her group of boys out one Friday night for a sit-down dinner.

Since Ceci has done such an incredible job planning trips for the individuals at her own group home, she was promoted to Activities Coordinator for the entire Orange Park division. Currently, Ceci helps plan activities and trips for all the residences in the division. She tailors events for different people, recognizing that not every event is suitable for every person. Some events are designed for only one or two people from each house, and some are planned for all to participate in. She truly understands the meaning behind individualized services and she is truly deserving of a Trustees’ Award.
