Lindsay Emmanuel

Curriculum Coordinator
May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities
Randolph, Mass.

The Employee Recognition & Appreciation committee congratulates Lindsay Emmanuel for being selected for an Employee Spotlight Award in the Fall of 2015! The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of May employees. Winners are nominated by their colleagues, managers, and supervisors from across the organization.

Lindsay Emmanuel, Curriculum Coordinator at the May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Randolph, Mass., was nominated for the Employee Spotlight Award by one of the teachers at her school. The teacher describes Lindsay as “an advocate for students,” and highlighted her recent success planning September Safety Month for the entire school.

Among the activities she planned, Lindsay arranged for members of the Randolph Fire and Police Departments to visit the school. Students had the opportunity to meet local firefighters and police officers, practice crossing the street, and learn what to do in the event of an emergency. They checked out the firefighters’ gear and even clamored up into the fire truck for an up close and personal look.

Lindsay began her career with May Institute in March, 2011 as a direct care staff. She quickly worked her way up to a teacher position in September of that same year. “It's an awesome feeling when you see a student that never knew about a topic, like volcanoes or insects, tell you all about it,” she says. “I love to see them proud of their dioramas, stories, art projects, and vocational jobs. I love knowing that I taught them that!"

In July of 2015, Lindsay was promoted to Curriculum Coordinator. In her new role, she likes to push the teachers’ ideas of what their students are capable of, and show them how their students can shine. When asked what she likes most about her school, Lindsay says, “You have the opportunity to become a great teacher. You learn to find teachable moments, to problem-solve on the go, to think on your feet, and to collaborate with other professionals and families…. Having worked at the May, I am a more powerful educator!”
