The Employee Recognition & Appreciation committee congratulates Brittany Roy for being selected for an Employee Spotlight Award in 2019! The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of May employees. Winners are nominated by their colleagues, managers, and supervisors from across the organization. 

From Brittany's nomination: Brittany Roy is the example of what it means to go above and beyond for the individuals we support, how to help the staff grow and flourish in their jobs, and what it means to be hard working. Brittany always treats our consumers with dignity and respect. If an individual needs something, she helps find a way for it to be possible. Brittany also trains other staff through example. She is a fierce advocate for the population we serve; she goes above and beyond to ensure that the individuals we support have a good quality of life and the best care available. If she feels that an individual is not receiving the best care he or she deserves [e.g. medical care], she spends hours looking for the right provider who could deliver the needed services. Brittany's passion for this field is contagious and reflects in everything she does. 

Brittany also rearranges her schedule to make sure staff are trained and supported so they feel like they are making an improvement in the consumers' lives. Recently, she has had to handle tough situations due to staffing shortages, and has worked countless direct care hours in addition to her supervisory job to support the affected residential programs. Despite all the challenges, she always maintains a positive attitude and a sense of humor. Staff and individuals know they can count on Brittany for support, guidance, and respect. She does her work quietly, with grace, quiet determination, and a lot of heart. Brittany Roy is the example of what it means to be an employee for May Institute. 

"Thank you to the ERA nominating committee and to whoever nominated me for recognizing my contribution to our organization. Before working for the May, I had never had the chance to work with adults with developmental disabilities before, and very shortly after I started working at a residence in Bridgewater 10 years ago, I realized that it was something that I was going to do for as long as I could. Over the past 10 years, I have grown as a person and as a leader and I feel lucky to be able to make a difference in the lives of the men and women that I support each day. I’m very proud of the work that myself and my team does, and I look forward to doing it for many years to come."
