Andrea Gold

Executive Director
The Bay School (a May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities)
Santa Cruz, California

Employee Spotlight Award Winner, Fall 2017

Teachers, administrators, and instructors alike have been known to refer to Andrea as our "mama bear" because of the tenacity and ferocity with which she stands up for us all. Andrea has shown consistent, tireless dedication to the students and staff at The Bay School. Over the last several months, she has been responsible for the oversight of a department that was without an Administrator while still remaining the Executive Director; juggling countless tasks and deadlines and handling it all with grace.

Andrea is an outstanding advocate for our staff, working to always improve staff morale, retention and improve the quality of life for us living in such an expensive part of California. She has worked with the parent committee to raise money for our students and school for things like iPads, new bikes and an amazing playground. She has never hesitated to stop what she’s doing to listen, support and problem solve. She always makes herself available to every staff member, no matter how much work she has to do. Her kindness, empathy and big heart are unmatchable. Andrea is always cheerful and happy, even through challenging times. Andrea is amazing and should be recognized for everything she does.

In Andrea's words:
"It is such an honor to have been nominated for the Employee Spotlight Award. During my 11 years at The Bay School/May Institute I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most amazing people. I truly enjoy coming to work each day and collaborating with our team to create new systems, solve problems, and make life better for all of our staff, students, and families. Together we face every challenge and celebrate every success. I am so appreciative and humbled by the recognition, it means the world to me!!!"
