Day School for Children and Adolescents
The May Center for Education and Neurorehabilitation, located in Brockton, Mass., is a “home away from home” for children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 5 to 22) with brain injury.
Established in 1992, the Center’s individualized programs, highly trained professionals, and nurturing environment provide the support students need to successfully navigate the challenges of rehabilitation, master critical life skills, and develop new friendships. The Center's focus on helping students regain independence has enabled the vast majority of our students to move to less restrictive environments.
Our school offers 11 classrooms, on-site residences, a library with computer lab, gymnasium with sports equipment, a comprehensive medical suite, and rooms equipped for rehabilitative therapy.
May Center teachers and certified brain injury specialists (AACBIS) work with students in small groups or individually, combining best practices from the fields of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and education. Each student has a program book that includes detailed plans for implementing his or her IEP. Teachers record data in this book daily, noting the child’s challenges and progress with developmental, behavioral, and educational goals.
The May Center for Education and Neurorehabilitation makes progress possible, even for students with the most difficult learning and neurological challenges. Our school offers a wide variety of services that are based on each student’s strengths, needs, and preferences and include:
Educational Services
- Comprehensive educational and clinical evaluations
- Year-round extended day school program
- Small classrooms with high student-to-staff ratio
- Board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs)
- Medical, Therapeutic, and Counseling Services
- Direct and collaborative physical and occupational therapy; speech and language pathology
- Vision, brace, audiology, and psychiatry clinics
- Collaborative consultation services provided by physicians from major teaching hospitals and universities, a psychiatrist, social worker, and specially trained nurses
