Established in 1992, the May
Center for Education and Neurorehabilitation is one of the few schools
in the United States that exclusively serves children and adolescents
with brain injury. The Center provides specialized educational services
to children, adolescents, and young adults, ages 5 to 22, with acquired
brain injury at a new, state-of-the-art facility in Brockton, Massachusetts.
The new site offers 11 classrooms, on-site residences, a library with
computer lab, gymnasium with sports equipment, a comprehensive medical
suite, and rooms equipped for rehabilitative therapy.
The Center's innovative model includes a day program and community
or on-site residential options with 24-hour care.
Certified Brain Injury Specialists
The Center has certified brain injury specialists (AACBIS) on
staff and has developed a professional
education training program for May Institute employees desiring
to earn AACBIS certification.
All teaching staff complete a program of competency-based training
that covers the most effective methods for working with children
with brain injury and related disorders.
Consultation Services
The Center also offers school, home and agency consultation. Services include
educational, behavioral, vocational, or rehabilitative services for families
and school districts. For public schools looking to enhance services within their
own district's programs, the Center offers on-site consultation and training
for special educational professionals.
The Center's focus on helping students regain independence has
enabled the vast majority of our students to move to less restrictive
environments.
